Hi everyone!  Thank the LORD for another day to praise Him!

Pastor preached a message this morning entitled “A Good Report”.  He asked us two questions.  1) What kind of testimony do we want to have?  2) What kind of testimony do we want to leave behind?  Proverbs 22:1 talks about a good name being better than having riches.  We then looked at examples of Bible characters and their testimonies.  Abel, Abraham, Noah, and Moses all had testimonies of believing and obeying God.  The apostle Paul started out with a bad reputation, one of fighting against God.  But after his conversion to Christ, he gained a good testimony by the grace of God and hard work.  Doubting Thomas carried the Gospel into Europe, but he is only remembered for his one moment of doubting.  What do we want to be remembered by?

Praise the LORD!  Bro. David Jones has recovered enough from his knee surgery to come back to church and play the piano for us.  It was so wonderful to have the piano for songs again!  Thank you, Bro. David!

Welcome back, Darin Ratliff!  Darin is back home from his military training to be with his family for a short time.  Good to have you back!

We were glad to have Kylee Ratliff visit with us today!  Christy Smith was well enough to join us for services, too!

Bro. Timothy Cleghorn brought the afternoon message.  He spoke on ways we can tempt Christ by living our lives for ourselves instead of yielding to Him, by lowering our standards, and by misapplying Bible truths to justify a sin that we want to do.  We need to watch out for these things in our lives.

As we were leaving church, the snow came pouring down.  Snow is so beautiful!

Have a good week everyone!!! Until next time…

Hi everyone!  What a wonderful day!  It is so good to get together with other believers and talk about how great God is!

Pastor’s topic today was “Why Did Jesus Come?”.  There are many reasons why Jesus came to earth.  The Bible has the answers!

1.      John 10:10 – That we might have life.

2.      John 12:46, 9:5 – To be the Light of the world.

3.      John 9:39-41 – To open eyes to see the darkness of our own sin.

4.      Matthew 5:17 – To fulfill the law and Scriptures.

5.      Matthew 9:10-13 – To call sinners to repentance.

In Isaiah 53, we saw that Jesus carried our griefs and sorrows, He was wounded for our iniquities, and He healed us by His wounds.  Jesus did all these things for us!  This reminds us how much Jesus loves us and all the world!  All we have to do is believe on Him and receive Him as our own personal Saviour.  (John 1:12)

We gathered together between services to pray for our lost relatives and friends that need to know the Saviour.

Miss Phyllis Calvert was felling well enough to sing a special for us today.  Thank you!  You did a wonderful job!

The Conrad family was missed as they are visiting with relatives in Ohio.  Safe travels!

Bro. Duane Cleghorn spoke on “Teaching Methods” this afternoon.  All Christians are teachers.  We need to be ready to teach at anytime, anywhere.

Happy birthday to Bro. Jr. Roop.  The Lord has blessed him with 75 years!  We hope you enjoy your day!

Bro. Mark Tomey, Bro. Loddie Alspach, Bro. Kirk Parke, and the Cleghorn men all gathered around the piano and worked on a song.  It sounded so good that everyone wanted them to sing it for the afternoon service.  Thank you guys!  Great job!

Remember that God is good!  Have a great week!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  What a wonderful God we serve!  Praise the LORD for another wonderful day!

Pastor preached an exciting message this morning on the wondrous works of God, and the names of God/Jesus.  Psalm 75:1 talks about the wondrous works of God showing us that His Name is near.  The first work of God is the creation (Psalm 19:1-3), the next work of God is seen in salvation (re-creation –II Corinthians 5:17).  Then we looked at what the names of God mean.  The name of God is very powerful!  God had no beginning and no ending.  Jehovah means self-existent and eternal.  Jesus means Saviour.  Christ means the Anointed One.  Please read Philippians 2:10-11; it tells us about bowing the knee before Jesus.  We can either bow now and proclaim Him Lord because we want to, or we can wait until eternity and bow to Him because we have to.  What choice will we make?

After the break between services, we gathered together to remember our persecuted brethren through out the world.  We also prayed for the thousands of people dying from starvation in Korea.  Please remember these people in prayer.

Bro. David Jones is still at home recovering from knee surgery.  He is dreadfully missed, as he is our pianist.  Isaac Jones was also home sick today.  We hope you both get better soon!

Bro. John Conrad spoke on “Questions” in the afternoon service.  It is not wrong to ask questions, but we need to be careful how we ask questions, and our motives behind our questions.  Is also interesting to study how Jesus used questions.  Jesus’ questions never hurt or injured anyone.  He always used questions to help people.

The Campbellsburg fire trucks came past the church with their lights flashing and sirens blaring.  They threw candy to all the kids.  The kids really enjoyed seeing the fire trucks, but they especially enjoyed the candy!

Have a good week everyone!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  Brrr!!!  It is getting colder!  But we can have warm hearts even when it’s cold outside.

Pastor preached this morning on “The Compassion of God”.  We saw from Lamentations 3:22-23 that God’s mercies are new every morning.  One of the meanings of compassion is the mixed emotions of pity, passion, love, and sorrow.  It is like empathy vs. sympathy.  Psalm 78:38-39 tells us that God has compassion on us because He remembers that we are like a wind that passes away.  It is wonderful to be under God’s mercy and compassion, but rejection of His Son keeps us under the condemnation of judgment.  Jesus was compassion personified when He gave His life for us.  All we have to do is believe in Jesus and accept Him as our personal Saviour.  Thank you, God, for Your great compassion for us!

After enjoying a wonderful dinner and fellowship together, we gathered together again for the afternoon service.  We participated in Communion, remembering what Jesus did for us on the cross.

Today was a special day for our church.  Pastor Cleghorn and his family have been called to be missionaries to Indonesia.  Today was his last day as pastor.  He gave a charge to the congregation to keep serving the Lord, and to go on and do right.  The Cleghorn family will be starting deputation soon.   The men of the church asked Bro. Daniel Cleghorn to be the interim pastor, which he accepted.  We are all excited and are looking forward to serving the Lord until He comes again for us!

It was so good to have Bro. Jerry McPike, Madison and Nicholas Phegley, and others from the Shoals area worship with us.  Thank you for joining us today!

Have a good week!!!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We sure did!  It was so good to think about all the blessings that God has given to us and thank Him for them!

Bro. John Conrad spoke this morning on the “Priesthood of the Believer” and the rewards and responsibilities that accompany it.

1.      Rewards of the Believer

–        Direct access to God ourselves without a priest or go-between

–        We have the best inheritance, Jesus!

2.      Responsibilities of the Believer (Malachi 2:7-9)

–        We have to keep the knowledge of God in our lips

–        Teach truth to others

–        Pray for others

–        Make sacrifices to God of our time, money, etc.

We held special prayer together for our missionaries again this week.  Our missionaries face great difficulties frequently, and they need the support of our prayers!

Bro. Daniel Cleghorn spoke in the afternoon service on “Things That Stop Us From Bearing Fruit”.  He reviewed the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23.  If we don’t bear fruit, not only do we loose out, but the people we would have reached or helped, loose out, too.

Isaac Jones was missed today as he was home sick.  We hope you get well soon!

Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ratliff!  Congratulations on the many years God has given you together!

Happy Birthday to Joshua Conrad!  Wow!  You’re 6 years old now!

Have a good week everyone!  God is good!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  God is so good to us!  We have so many things to be thankful for!

Pastor preached on “Tithes/Offerings and New Testament Giving” this morning.  First we saw that everything we have came from God and belongs to God.  The purpose of our giving is to take care of the Lord’s workers, the poor, fatherless, and widows.  God cares about our attitude toward giving.  II Corinthians 9:7 says, “…not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”  You know, Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us.  We should show the same love and giving to our fellowman (enemy or friend).  Luke 6:38 tells us how God will give to us if we give to others with the right attitude.  God wants us to give of ourselves (not just money) first to Him, then to others.  Let’s see what we can do to help others this week!  (It takes a real Christian to show love to someone who doesn’t love you, rather than showing love only to those who also love you in return.)

We gathered together this afternoon to pray for our missionaries and their needs.  Please pray for Mrs. Gade in New Guinea as she is trying to get well from Typhoid Fever.

The Conrad family was missed today.  They were visiting with their family in Alabama.

The youth group (under the direction of Timothy Cleghorn) practiced a song between the services and sang it for the afternoon service.  Can you imagine, practicing a song for only 15-30 minutes, and having it ready to sing?!  Good job, kids!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!  Let’s try to find 10 things to thank God for!  (Also…if you have enjoyed reading this article, please take just a couple minutes of your time to thank the kind people at the Salem Leader/Democrat for providing this service!)  Thank you!!!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  Boy, have we had a good week!  Our Missions Conference was fantastic!  Wednesday night our Pastor started the conference with a message entitled “Prepare!”.  The theme of the conference this year was “Prepare, Prepare, Prepare!”.  Everyone was encouraged to prepare themselves to serve the Lord.  We would like to thank the following missionaries for coming and being a part of our conference:  The Girard Family (17 year missionaries in New Guinea), the Middlebrooks Family (missionaries to Russia), Bro. Ed Klein (with the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry), and Bro. Timothy Cleghorn (representing Baptist Bible Translators Institute).  All the services were absolutely wonderful!  The Lord really did a great work in lots of people’s hearts.  We were all sad that the conference ended today.  It is exciting to see people wanting to come to church to hear about missionaries, the countries they are serving, and to hear what God has to say from His Word!

We all enjoyed a dinner together today.  We were able to partly use our new kitchen for the meal!  It is far from being done, but we were happy to be able to use part of it.  The ladies can’t wait until the carpenters finish the kitchen project.

The little youth choir did a fantastic job on their song.  All the singing groups really did a great job honoring the Lord with their specials.  Thank you to all who sang!

We welcome the Kovach family, missionaries to Brazil.  They were able to give an update on their progress on almost completing deputation.  Soon, they will be leaving for Brazil.  Also it was so good to have Don and Martha Mantooth, and part of the Burden family from Tennessee join our services today.

Happy birthday to Jed and Sharon Cleghorn.  Sharon brought cupcakes to church for the children to enjoy.  We hope you both had an enjoyable birthday!

Have a good week everyone!  God is so good!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  Thank the Lord for another wonderful day!

Bro. John Conrad preached the morning service today.  He spoke about how much our children mean to us.  He showed us from Exodus 20:1-6 how that the judgments for what the parents have done are passed on to the next generation (the children).  Romans 6:1-18 tells us that what we do shows who we are serving (if we sin, we are serving the devil; if we do right, we are serving God).  Children watch how their parents live.  Many people use the philosophy of, “do as I say, not as I do.”  Most parents want their children to be better than what they are.  The only thing that makes people better is the Word of God.  Parents need to teach the Bible to their children and live what it says themselves.  He challenged all parents to look into the future and see where they are taking their children.  Are we taking our children down God’s path of blessings, or are we selling our children out for our own pleasure?  Sobering thoughts indeed!

Happy birthday to Pastor Cleghorn and Lydia Jones!  We hope you both have a wonderful birthday!

Today we all gathered together to pray for the persecuted brethren across the world.  We also remembered the families of the casualties at Fort Hood.  Our hearts go out to them.

Praise the Lord that Christy Smith was well enough to attend church today.  It was so good to have you, Christy!  We are glad you are feeling better!

Our church’s Missions Conference is this week, the 11th-15th.  The little youth were busy practicing songs today.  The children are looking forward to singing and playing their instruments for the Lord at the Conference.  Keep up the good work kids!

Have a good week everyone!    Until next time…

 November 2, 2009

Hello everyone!  The Lord has blessed us with another wonderful week!

Bro. Daniel Cleghorn brought the morning’s message on the topic of  “Our Place”.  Did you know that every person has a place that God expects them to be?  When we are in our place, we are under God’s protection.  If we get out of our place, we leave God’s protection and enter into God’s judgment.  Psalm 119:9-11 and

II Corinthians 5:17-21 tell us where our place is.  The job of the Believer is to tell others about Christ and bring them to a knowledge of Him.  We must also keep close to Jesus by reading our Bibles every day.  Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”  We must put Jesus first in everything!  Now…we are not perfect.  What happens if we mess up and get out of our place???  I John 1:9 has our answer!  If we confess our sins, Jesus forgives us and restores us back into fellowship with Him!  Then we were all admonished to find the place that God has for us and stay there without questioning God.

After the first service everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner together.  The food was great!  We all love fellowshipping over good food!

We praise the Lord that Kathy Parke is doing much better!  She is now home from the hospital and is off the oxygen treatment!

Special thanks goes to Bro. Mark and Amy Tomey, and to Bro. Loddie Alspach for providing the special music for today.

Happy Birthday to Mrs. Cleghorn this week!  Her wish for this birthday was to be able to stay the same age and not get any older.  J

Bro. John Conrad spoke this afternoon on “Principle vs. Issues”.  He told how that issues change, but principles don’t.

Have a good week everyone!  Stay well!!!  Until next time…

October 26, 2009

Hi everyone!  What a wonderful day today!  We all have many things to thank the Lord for!

Pastor spoke on I Peter chapter 1 this morning.  There are so many treasures contained in chapter 1, but there is not enough space here to cover them all.  We will mention just a few.  Did you know that Believers have a “lively hope” (verse3)?  Our Lord is not dead…He rose again!  And, “…because I live, ye shall live also.” John 14:19.  Also, Jesus gives us an uncorrupted and undefiled inheritance in Heaven that doesn’t fade away and is being reserved for us! (verse 4)  Hang on now…here is another wonderful thing.  We are kept by the power of God! (verse 5)  We cannot keep ourselves saved by doing good things; only God can keep us!  This is real Eternal Security!  Please read John 10:25-30 for an extra blessing.

The young children are practicing with their violins to play a special for church.  It is so cute watching the little ones try their hands at the violin.  Keep it up kids!  You’re doing great!

Kathy Parke is home from the hospital now and doing a little better.  We missed the Jones family as most of them were home sick today.  I hope the flu goes away soon!

We are so happy that Phyllis Calvert was feeling well enough to be with us today!

Bro. Daniel Cleghorn spoke for the afternoon service.  His message was entitled, “What is Law?”  It was a very interesting study!  Did you know that the Ten Commandments cover every aspect of life?  They are sufficient to govern society.

The building construction is coming along well.  We hope to have things up and working by our Missions Conference coming up in November.

Have a good week!  God is good all of the time!!!  Until next time…

 October 19, 2009

Hi everyone!  It sure turned cold quickly this year!  But I’m glad that our hearts can still be warm around God’s Word.  What a blessing!

Pastor preached a message entitled, “Respect”, this morning.  He told us that what God respects, He also accepts.

Exodus 20 demands our respect to God as the sole and only authority in our lives.  Then Pastor showed us things from the Bible that we are supposed to respect.

  1. Isaiah 17:7 – Our Maker, God Himself.
  2. Psalm 119:6, 15, 117 – God’s Word and Laws.
  3. Exodus 20:8-11; I Corinthians 16:1-2 – God’s Day.
  4. Psalm 122:1; Hebrews 10:25 – God’s House.
  5. Jeremiah 3:15; Hebrews 13:7, 17 – God’s man (the preacher).

We will see God’s blessings on our lives if we respect what God respects.

Bro. John Conrad preached the afternoon service.  His title was “Don’t Leave the Same Way You Came”.  He admonished us to accept what the Bible tells us, and change.  If we don’t, our heart will be hardened, and soon we will not feel conviction from the Holy Spirit any more.

Kirk and Kathy Parke celebrated their anniversary on Saturday.  We all wish you a very happy anniversary!

Our pastor was surprised by a special card from all the church members today in celebration of October being ‘pastor appreciation’ month.  Thank you, Pastor, for all your hard work!

We missed Kelsey and Justin Cleghorn as they were out sick today.  Kathy Parke was also out sick today.  She is in the hospital suffering with pneumonia.  We are praying that all who are sick will recover soon.

We now have heat in the church!  Everyone was so thankful!  Last Wednesday’s service was a little chilly.

Have a good week everyone!  God is good!

Until next time…

October 12, 2009

Hi everyone!  We have been enjoying the beautiful changes of Fall!  The Lord is so good!

Bro. Daniel preached this morning’s service.  He spoke on the incredible Power of Jesus.  In Luke 9:1-17, Jesus gave His disciples power over evil spirits and diseases.  Then he asked a question…the power that we have, where do we get it?  Do we get caught up in serving the Lord on our own power?  If so…it is no power.  Let’s dive into a few verses and see what man’s strength gets him!

1.      Genesis 4:1-8 – Cain’s own power couldn’t get forgiveness of his sins.

2.      Judges 7:1-3 – Our own physical strength can’t save us.

3.      Luke 9:11-17 – Our own strength can’t help other people either.

4.      Matthew 1:18-25 – Physical power had nothing to do with Jesus’ virgin birth.

5.      I Corinthians 2:1-16 – The physical mind can’t understand the Spiritual things of the Bible.

But this is so exciting…just see what Jesus did for us!  Hebrews 4:15-16 tells us that Jesus was “…in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”  Jesus knows how all our temptations and trials feel!  Matthew 4:1-11 tells us how Jesus fought against the devil when He was tempted.  He responded in the spiritual world by quoting the Bible to him.  We cannot get victory over sin by fighting in the physical world.  We must fight in the spiritual world.  How?  By quoting the Scriptures and asking God for help.

We missed Kathy Parke and Phyllis Calvert today as they were both out sick.  They are fighting severe coughs and colds.  We are praying for you both!

The Jones family brought their grandson to church with them today.  Jackson is from Tennessee.  All the children love to play with him.  Glad to have you, Jackson!

God is so good!  Have a good week everyone!!!  Until next time…

October 5, 2009

Hi everyone!  What a wonderful day!  God has been so good to us!  Our building/remodeling project of the church is coming along very well.  We don’t have heat in yet…but it’s coming soon!  We are trying to dress warmly for right now.

Pastor preached on “The Greatest Thing You Can Know” this morning.  We looked at several Bible characters who were given good news.  But Jesus told His disciples the BEST news.

Luke 10:20 – The disciples were told, “…but rather rejoice, because your names are written in Heaven.”  Only those who are His children can receive this BEST news.

Where are our names written in Heaven?  Revelation 20:12 talks about several books in heaven.

    1. The Book of All Living – Revelation 20:12
    2. The Lamb’s Book of Life – Revelation 13:8, Philippians 4:3
    3. Record of Your Life – Psalm 104:30, 139:16
    4. Your Rewards – I Corinthians 3:11-15

What book is your name in?  Psalm 39:4, Galatians 3:26

We missed Phyllis Calvert today.  She is suffering from a terrible cold.

Kirstin Ratliff is now 17!  Happy Birthday, Kirstin!

Everyone enjoyed a potluck dinner among the studded-up walls of the new construction.  We also took a tour through what will be the new nursery, kitchen, and auditorium.  It is all looking wonderful!

Our pianist and his family (the Jones family) were dreadfully missed, as they were gone visiting friends in Tennessee.  All the young people played their stringed instruments for the music in the place of the piano.  Thank you young people!  Fantastic job!

We give special sympathy to the Ratliff family as Bro. Alvin’s Grandmother passed away.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time!

Take care everyone!  Have a good week!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  What another wonderful day at church!  I am reminded of the Psalm where David’s heart rejoices as he says, “I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go into the house of the LORD’.”  Psalm 122:1.

Bro. Daniel Cleghorn preached for us this morning on Ecclesiastes 3:14.  It talks about how that everything God does is good and will last for ever.  We looked at some of the mighty works of the LORD.  Did you know that God created everything by His own Word, and He provided Himself as our sacrifice…all for free!!! He upholds all things by the Word of His power; He also gives judgments for sins and rewards for obedience.  The wonderful thing about God is that even when we are under His judgment for our sins, if we repent and turn from them and start obeying Him, He moves us from under judgment and places us in His wonderful, endless mercy!  What a great God we serve!

The Sunday school children have been working hard on learning their Bible verses…so today they were rewarded with a special present from their teacher.  You should have seen all the smiles!  The children then had to show their gifts to everyone to be admired.  Good job kids!

Bro. David Jones played a special arrangement on the piano this morning as Isaac, his son, accompanied him on the bass.

We appreciate all the visitors that came this morning.  We miss the Conrad family as they are visiting Bro. John’s dad who has had some severe health struggles.  We are praying for him, and hope he feels better soon!

Hope you all have a good week!  God is good!!!

Until next time…

September 21, 2009

Hi everyone!  Praise the LORD for the much needed rain today.  Sunny days usually help people to be happy, but all rainy days aren’t bad…it’s all in the perspective.

Today was our first Sunday service in the new part of our building.  We are doing extensive remodeling in the old section.  For now space is a little cramped, but we are looking forward to a better, bigger building.

Our pastor preached this morning’s message entitled, “The Devil Never Sleeps”.  We were all admonished to be vigilant and watch for all the ways he can attack.  Pastor listed 5 things to watch out for.

1.      Hypocrisy – Matthew 13:33, 16:6-12, Luke 12:1

2.      Tares (something that looks like the real thing, but isn’t) – Matthew 13:24, II Corinthians 11:13,26

3.      False Doctrine – Titus 2:1, II Timothy 2:15-18, 4:3

4.      Inactivity – Romans 12:11, Hebrews 5:13-14

5.      Wrong Associations – II Corinthians 6:14-18

There are 3 responses that we can have to these admonitions.  We can either resist, compromise and coexist, or become evil ourselves.  Pastor challenged all present to watch for these attacks, and resist the devil!

Loddie Alspach’s birthday is Tuesday.  Happy birthday, Bro. Loddie!

Bro. John Conrad spoke in the afternoon service.  He challenged everyone to think about what kind of heritage they are leaving to their children.  Only physical…or spiritual too?

Special thanks to our friend, Clint Burden, from Tennessee.  He came up last week and helped with the remodeling process in the church.

!!!Special Announcement!!!  When my brother, Jonathan, was visiting last week, he broke the news.  He is engaged!  He will marry Whitley Voyles in January.  Congratulations, Jonathan and Whitley!

Have a good week!  Until next time….

September 14, 2009

Hi everyone!  We celebrated our church’s 10th anniversary today!  We had a good crowd and had very good services.  I would like to thank all our members that have put so much time and effort into all those years of service.  Thank you!!!

Our guest speaker today was Bro. Steve Schlechty from Jellico, Tennessee.  He has a magnetic Scripture sign ministry.  This morning he spoke on the importance of the written Word of God.  Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of Thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple.”  We live in a dark world of depression and sin.  When we read the Bible, God’s Words enter in and give us Light.  Remember how that Jesus Himself said, “I am the Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12.

All the singing groups did a fantastic job on the special music today.  The music glorified the Lord and was a blessing to the congregation’s hearts.

We all enjoyed a wonderful meal together after the morning service.  Mrs. Shirley Jones made a beautiful cake to fit the occasion.  Everyone really enjoyed the fellowship over dinner.

It was so good to have Jerry and Dolly McPike, Dana Howard, Bob and Rosie Bilyeu, and Kylee Ratliff join us for church today.  Thank you for coming and celebrating our 10th anniversary service with us!  My brother, Jonathan, was able to visit today, too, from New Albany.  He is doing well as he has gained back 85% usage of his arm and hand.

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Until next time…

Hi everyone!  Praise the Lord for the much needed rain that we received this morning!  Too bad it made everyone a little soggy on the way to and from church.

Our Pastor preached on the simplicity of the Gospel.  So many times, we loose the simplicity of the Bible doctrines as we look into the other complicated, more technical things.  Jesus addressed the importance of simplicity in Mark 10:13-16 when He said, “Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.”  Children, while they definitely are not dumb, do things more simply than adults do.  We need to receive salvation in the same simple way that a child does.  The text was taken from II Corinthians 11:3.

Between services, we fasted and prayed for the persecuted Christians across the world.  In so many countries, Christians have their houses confiscated, they loose all their earthly possessions, and are disowned from their communities and families.  These poor people need our prayers that God will watch over them.

We will miss Darin Ratliff as he is leaving today to go back to California to finish his training in the Marines.  He will not be able to come back home until December.

The youth choir missed Caleb and Joshua Conrad today as they were home sick.  We hope they get well from their colds and coughs soon.

Our Pastor taught on the difference between blessings and rewards in the afternoon service.  Blessings come from obeying God, and rewards come from serving the Lord with your everyday life.  These questions were presented to us all, “What are you doing to lay up treasure in Heaven?  Are you rejoicing in the blessings of now, or are you looking toward what you will have in Heaven?”   Just something to think on.

Have a great week!  Until next time…

Hi everyone!  Had good services today!  I hope you all had a good week too!

Bro. Daniel Cleghorn had a wonderful message for this morning’s service.  He spoke on a phrase from Hebrews 2:9, “But we see Jesus…”  Have you ever thought about all the things Jesus has done for you?  Jesus came to the world to:

1.      Make order out of chaos (orderliness of creation through His spoken word – John 1:1-14)

2.      Rescue us from the judgment to come (Exodus 12:13)

3.      Show us how to get victory over the devil (Matthew 4:1-11

4.      Give us healing (spiritual and physical – Psalm 107:20)

5.      Provide Himself as sacrifice for our sins (Genesis 22:1-14, John 1:29

6.      Fulfill prophecy (John 19:23-24, 36-37)

7.      Bring us Eternal Salvation (Hebrews 7:22-25)

Between services, we gathered to pray for our missionaries and their needs.  Many missionaries are facing severe health conditions and really need us to support them in prayer.

Bro. John Conrad preached a very good message on “pathology” from the Book of Proverbs in the Bible.  Please look at the path of the just in Proverbs 4:18.  Our path is supposed to get brighter as we near Heaven.  The contrast to this is the path of the wicked that is darkness (verse 19).

Congratulations to Darin Ratliff for his accomplishment in graduating Boot Camp in the Marine Corp.!  Good to have you back for a week!

Children in Sunday School were awarded with a New Testament for being able to say all the names of the Books of the Bible in order.  Good job kids!!!

Hope you all have a good week!  God is good!

Until next time…..

Hello all!  Wow!  The weather has turned much cooler the past few days!  It already seems like Fall.  I wonder what this winter will be like?

We had a special speaker today.  Brother Dale Hart and his wife Connie visited with us from West Virginia.  Bro. Hart spoke in both services on Jonah.  His sermon title was, “The Life of the Runner”.  He spoke on the things that happen to those who run from God.  There are certain things that will happen to the Runner:

1.      He will have to pay for what he does.

2.      He will be involved in a storm.

3.      He will hurt others with what he does.

But God will forgive and restore the runner if he (or she) repents of their sins and comes back to God.  Please read the 4 short chapters of the Book of Jonah for the whole story.

Between services we gathered together to pray for our lost loved ones to find Jesus as their Saviour.

Kathy Parke’s birthday is Tuesday.  Happy Birthday Kathy!

The little youth choir sang a special for the morning service.  They did a wonderful job.  Most of them even remembered to smile as they sang!  (You know how scary singing in front of church can be.)  J  J

Well…have a good week.  Stay away from those awful flu germs!

Until next time…

Hello!  Had wonderful services again today!  Several members are either out of town or on vacation so our attendance was a little low today.

Our Pastor preached on the power of the voice of God.  Did you know that God’s voice is so powerful that it reached from Heaven to earth (on Mount Sinai when God spoke the Ten Commandments) in real time?  Scientists today have time lags between their transmissions back and forth to spacecrafts.  God didn’t use any technology…He just spoke!  Please read Hebrews 4:12, 12:19-26, and Psalm 29.

Congratulations to the Applegate family on the arrival of their new baby, Faith Allison!  They will be moving to Missouri this coming week.  We will miss them, and will be praying that they will find a good, Bible preaching church to attend in their new area.

The Jones’ granddaughter, Amber, will be flying home to California on Wednesday.  We have enjoyed her being with us this summer!

Joy Cleghorn will be turning the big 13 on Tuesday.  Happy birthday, Joy!

During the afternoon service, the whole church practiced songs to sing at our Prison Ministry service.  It is so much fun to gather around the piano and sing!

Have a wonderful week!  God is good!

Until next time…

Hi! I’m Hannah.  I will be writing these articles for a while.  My mission trip to Papua New Guinea is being delayed for a while since I was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease.  I will be taking treatments for about a year or so before I can travel again.

We all had a wonderful time rejoicing over the goodness of God at church yesterday.  Daniel Cleghorn spoke in the morning service and brought a wonderful message.  Did you know that there is only one thing that Jesus did by Himself?  Hebrews 1:3 gives the answer, “…when He had by Himself purged our sins…”.  “…Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood.” Revelation 1:5.  Everything else that Jesus did, He did with God His Father.  In the afternoon service, our pastor preached on being valiant for the Truth.

Our pianist, Bro. Jones, brought guests to church all the way from Missouri.  We enjoyed visiting with Nancy and her family.  Everyone enjoyed fellowshipping and discussing the events of last week over a potluck dinner.

The youth choir has been changing over the past few months.  Most of the older children have gone off to college, or are pursuing their life’s goals, etc. so now we are enlisting the help of the younger children.  Everyone has fun as we learn new songs to minister to others in the service.  The younger ones are doing a fantastic job!

After our afternoon service, a group of men and boys hurried to the fair grounds to take down our booth before the building closed.  We would like to thank everyone for a good week at the fair.  Have a good week!  God is good!

We open every service with the song "I Belong to Jesus".   As I was sisnging this song last week, I thought of the words and would like to share them with you.

Once I lived for self alone, Once I called my life my own
Now my Lord is on the throne; I belong to Jesus.
Let the world do as it may, I have found a better way.
At His feet my all I lay, I belong to Jesus.

Once my heart was stained with sin, Once in vain my life had been.
Now His Spirit dwells within, I belong to Jesus.
Through His grace my soul is healed, By His Spirit I am sealed,
To His will I fully yield, I belong to Jesus.

Every day I let Him lead, He has met my deepest need.
Such a Friend is mine indeed, I belong to Jesus.
What He tells me I will do, Where He sends me I will go,
When He speaks His voice I know, I belong to Jesus.

I trust as you read these words you will let them sink into your heart and mind.  There truly is a powerful message in the words.

Following the afternoon service we were able to watch the Campbellsburg parade as it passed by the church.  Our church young people were asked to sing Sunday afternoon so many from the church went over to the pavilion to hear them.  A good crowd of local people also came to listen.

Saturday our family travelled to Indianapolis to watch an air show that commemorated the 65th anniversary of D-day.  There were lots of older war planes on display that were flown as part of the air show.  The climax of the show was watching the Blue Angels perform.  There were times when these six planes were  only 18 inches from each other.  Our  2 year old grandson Nathan was able to sit in one of the military trainer helicopters.  The attendant let him move a lever that moved the prop so he thought that was all right.

This Saturday will be the service at the local county jail.  Services are held for both the men and women.

The Conrads had their nephew Jared visiting from Ohio.  The Alspachs are looking forward to their grandson from Colorado coming for the summer.

Many families take a summer vacation, but I trust you will continue to attend church services even when out of town.  Plan ahead to find a good church to attend when out of town.

Summer weather is here!  We were thankful for the air conditioning during the service as the weather outside was quite warm.  In our country we seem to be a little spoiled thinking we need all of the modern conveniences.  Christians in some parts of the world are thankful just to be able to meet together to sing and listen to preaching.  Many do not even have a building, let alone the comfy seats, air conditioning, and other nicities our church have.

Sunday morning Bro. Duane preached on reasons that our prayers are not answered.  He continued on this topic in the afternoon service.  The Bible gives many reasons why God will not hear and answer  our prayers.  Some of these include when we have inquity in our hearts He cannot hear us,  we sometimes put other gods before Him, we have hypocrisy in our lives,  we are filled with pride or self righteousnsess.  The first prayer we should offer is that of asking forgiveness for our sins.  Once we have a clean heart, He can hear our prayers.

We were thankful for several visitors in the services.  We have our job cut out for us as there were still several vacant seats that should have been occupied.

Phyliss Calvert and Nora Shepherd traveled to Tennessee to attend a funeral of a friend.  They returned in time to attend our services, but were still suffering from travel lag.

The Daniel Cleghorn family had a safe trip to Michigan and home.  I asked our granddaughter Kelsy what she liked best about her vacation.  She like the big playground at the motel.  They were able to tour one of the lighthouses on Lake Michigan and brought Grandma back a small replica of it.

Kelsey was the flower girl in her father's cousin's wedding.  She wore a pretty white dress and sprinkled the "petal flowers".  Grandma got to see pictures of how pretty she looked.

We hope to see each of you at our church's booth at the county fair.  We are busy planning our booth and making the preparations to decorate it.  We also discussed about participating in the parade this year.

Bro. John Conrad spoke on the topic of "Humility"  in the morning service.  Bro. Dan Young spoke in the afternoon on "Prosperity".  In between the services time was spent praying for our unsaved loved ones and for a pastor since Bro. Duane will be leaving next month for the mission field.  Special music was provided by the Conrad family, Beth Tomey, Shirley Jones, and myself.

The Cleghorn families went to a family wedding in Michigan.  Our granddaughter Kelsey was the flower girl.  Her family took their vacation and rented a cabin on the lake for a week.

Mark and Amy Tomey returned safely from their vacation to Canada and Niagra Falls.

We extend our sympathy to Nora Shepherd and family in the recent death of her niece.  It is sometimes hard to understand  why God takes the life of a young Mother so suddenly; however,  His ways and thoughts are above ours, and what He does is for His glory.

We thank God for the sunshine and rain that He sent this past week.  The crops and gardens are nice and green.  We need to be thankful for all of the blessings that He showers upon us.

We enjoyed having Bro. Kenneth McFadden and his wife with us Sunday.  Bro. McFadden spoke in both services.  He has pastored a church in Arkansas for many years.

We obtained word that the doors at the Madison Correctional Institute are again over after the swine flu scare.  A group from church will be having services there on Saturday.

The young people will be visiting the local nursing homes this week to sing, visit, and testify.

School will soon be over for another year, and summer vacations are just around the corner.  Don't take a vacation from God or attending church.

Our granddaughter Kelsey has been going to "Sunday Class School" as she calls it for several weeks.  She was excited when she turned four that she was finally old enough to go.  She has learned her memory verse each week so last Sunday she got to choose a prize from the treasure box.  She picked out a little blue rubber frog.  You would have thought that it was made of pure gold!   She was so proud.  We are proud that she has a desire to hide God's Word in her heart and mind.

I still remember Bible verses and songs that I learned as a child.  One day we may need to depend on verses from memory as freedoms are quickly being taken away.  We may have to pay a price for owning a Bible as believers in some countries do.  This should spur us on to share the gospel message with others.

In keeping with the theme of Mother's Day, the morning message looked at Mary, the Lord's Mother.  Daniel Cleghorn spoke in the afternoon on The Hand of God.

Time was given for special thoughts, poems, or memories of our Mothers.   Each Mother present was given a carnation and a gift certificate to True Value.

Sunday afternoon we had our daughter and family over to celebrate Poppa's birthday and Mother's Day.  The grandchildren were very helpful when it was time to unwrap presents.  Poppa took them on a tractor ride before we ate.  The evening ended by Poppa cutting the boy's hair.  It was a busy evening so the little ones probably were asleep before they got home.

It has been a challenge keeping the yard mowed and the garden weeded due to the rain.  It helps the grass and weeds grow quickly, and it is difficult running the mower over wet grass.  I thought about how our lives are like this--you have to continually pluck the weeds that try to take over.  Spending time in God's Word helps us to grow. It does not matter how long a person has been a child of God, you daily have to fight the flesh and the devil.  Both can take over and control you if you do not continually weed them out and replace them with God's Word.

Satan continues to attack the integrity of Christians just like he did many years ago when he focused on Job.  Sunday's message looked at what Job experienced and how Satan tried his best to make Job give in.  Satan used the loss of material things, he inflicted pain and suffering, he allowed the process to continue over a period of time, and he used the counsel of Job's friends.  Through all of the pain and suffering, Job maintained his integrity.

Our first pastoral candidate Bob Ossewarde, along with his family, were our special guests in the services.  Brother Ossewarde preached in the afternoon and his family sang several songs.  They presently live in Georgia.

What better way is there to celebrate Mother's Day than to be in church with your Mother?   Make plans now to attend church with your Mother.

The services at the Madison Correctional Institute are on hold as no one is allowed to visit the facility due to the swine flu outbreak.  We trust that the state will open the door again very soon.

Every Wednesday evening at 7 PM we  have Bible study and prayer  at the church.  We have been studying through Proverbs.  This book contains many practical instructions for every day living.  We invite you to join us.

Sunday's morning message was "God is Calling".  Mentioned were the call of creation, the call of the gospel, the call to sanctification, and the call to service.  Focusing on the call to service, Bro. John Conrad looked at the call of Moses, Joshua, Gideon, and Paul.

We will be having our first pastoral candidate this next Sunday.  He and his family will be driving up from Georgia to  meet our church and he will preach for us.

The Daniel Cleghorn family celebrated two birthdays and an anniversary last week.  They invited the family over for a picnic dinner followed by cake and homemade ice cream.

The rain was truly a blessing as last week I had planted most of our garden.  Small rows of green leaves had begun peeking through the dirt, so the rain will help them to grow. As Christians we grow when we are watered by God's Word.  We become stronger and are able to combat sin easier when we read our Bibles.

CAVE   RIVER   VALLEY    by  Connie Young

Sunday's message centered on Bible reasons for answered prayers.  Many times our prayers are not answered due to our unwillingness to forgive another Christian brother.  Our relationship with each other can hinder our prayers being answered.  We can also harbor unjust anger one to another without a cause.  We need to make sure nothing hinders our relationship with our Lord or with other Christians.

Our youngest grandson will be turning one this week.  His newest is to shake his head no while saying na-na-na.  He has added this to his vocabulary of da da, mum mum, and bye bye.  He sits on Mom's lap during the church service without a peep, except when looking  at a book with a picture of a kitty in it.  He then meows like a cat as he reads.

Timothy Cleghorn is teaching at a Bible institute in Bowie, Texas.  This is very near the area in Texas where the wild fires have been spreading.  Timothy sent pictures of some of the damage resulting from the fires.  He said that none of the property of the church or its members was affected--the fires came very close, but these areas were protected.  The preacher's neighbor lost land and cows in the fire, but it turned and went aroung the preacher's property.  God sure protects His own.

We lift up Hannah Cleghorn in our prayers as she recently found out that she has Lymes disease.  Her mission trip to New Guinea has been postponed until her health improves.  The men of the church gathered and offered special prayer in her behalf.

The young people will be visiting the nursing homes this week to sing and visit from room to room.

Bro. Mitch Canupp began  the Bible conference by speaking about the King James Bible and its uniqueness.  He shared verses that show how it is arranged.  Jesus Christ is the focal point of the King James Bible.  Bro. Canupp pointed out that even the punctuation and capitalization is important.

Sunday evening he spoke about the dangers of using different versions of the Bible.  There are words that have been changed, and entire verses have been omitted.

The meetings will continue  Monday through Thursday at 7:00 PM.

We wish a happy anniversary to Shorty and Dora  Sinks.  Many times Dora brings her grandchildren with her to church.

A large group went to the ladies facility in Madison on Saturday.  Shirley Jones presented an object lesson.

The resurrection makes Christianity different from all other religions.  We invite you to celebrate Resurrection Sunday with us next Sunday.  We surely serve a risen Saviour!

CAVE   RIVER  VALLEY   by Connie Young

I was saddened when I read the front page of the newspaper.  The lead article covered a neighbor dispute where a person was sent to the hospital with serious injuries.  The person who caused these injuries was a woman.  Another article told of a daughter who stole checks from her father and wrote them.

Ladies need to be featured in articles because they are mothers or wives who have benefited society by doing nice and kind gestures.  Ladies need to be special, feminine, and loving, and the newspaper regularly features women in these roles.  Ladies are one of the most special creations of God.

It seems that women are filling up our jails just as fast as men do.  It is sad that men commit crimes that send them to jail, but how much sadder it is when a woman does such.

Every Saturday a group from our church goes to the  Women's Correctional Facility in Madison.  Phyllis Calvert, one of our dear ladies, serves as a volunteer chaplain there.  She spends several days a week counseling inmates.

There are many examples of ladies in the Bible who had a life of sin, but Christ forgave them and gave them a purpose for living.  Only He can help you make the needed changes.  If  you desire to be a godly lady, but do not know how, we invite you to join us on Sunday at 9:30 AM.

Bro. Daniel Cleghorn brought a message Sunday on "Mercy".  Mercy is not receiving the judgment that is due to you.  We truly have a merciful God as we are all sinners who should pay for our sins; however, Christ paid the debt for us.

Bro. Mitch Canupp will be speaking at the King James Bible Conference beginning Sunday, April 5 at 9:30 AM.  Monday through Thursday evening the meetings begin at 7:00 PM.

CAVE   RIVER   VALLEY   by  Connie Young

Spring is my favorite season because   it is a time of rebirth and color in creation.  I enjoy working outside planting my garden and fixing up the flower garden.  You can open the windows of your house and let the breeze blow through.  It is refreshing to enjoy the outdoors after the cold weather that winter brings and see the beauty that God created.

We have several proud grandparents.  Laurie Schell reported that her daughter gave birth to a healthy little girl named Isabella.  Of course, she had to drive up north to see the new grandbaby.  Loddie and Charyl Alspach have a new grandson named EJ (Ethan Jay)  We need to remember this little one in our prayers as he was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital upon birth due to some respiratory problems.

Sunday afternoon one of our young men Benjamin Cleghorn spoke on "God's Purpose for Man".  He recently finished up his high school studies and believes that the Lord is leading him to pursue missionary aviation.  He is looking into where he can receive the flight training that he will need.

Our grandson Nathan Cleghorn turned 2 Sunday so we went to his birthday party.  He loves airplanes so his Mommy made an airplane birthday cake.  When he plays outside, he pretends that a stick is an airplane and flies it in the sky.  He received many presents, but his favorite were his new red tricycle and some little toy helicopters which are just as good as airplanes!

Phyllis Calvert reported that several ladies were saved this past week at the Madison Correctional Institute during the revival held by Rock of Ages.

CAVE RIVER VALLEY by Connie Young

Prayers of thanksgiving were offered Sunday as Hannah Cleghorn was able to attend the services for a short time .  She still has much healing after her recent surgery, but she hopes to be able to go to New Guinea as a missionary sometime this year.

Bro. John Conrad brought the morning message on "What is the Worth of Wisdom?".  He used a unique illustration to establish his point of how we determine the worth of objects.  He called one of the young men up and asked him to give the price of several items on display.  How can you put a price tag on wisdom?

Bro. John used many Scriptures to show what wisdom involves and where it comes from.  King Solomon is considered the wisest man that ever lived.  The opposite of being wise is being foolish.  The Bible says that the fool has said in his heart that there is no God.  True wisdom comes from God, regardless of the education and degrees that a person may have.

Special time was taken to pray for the persecuted Christians around the world.  Many are in prison or have given their lives due to their faith in Christ.  We are seeing some of our freedoms slowly being taken away from us even in our country.  We need to be busy about sharing the gospel with those around us.

CAVE RIVER VALLEY by Connie Young

Many have been fasting and praying for Hannah Cleghorn who was admitted to Floyd County Hospital last Wednesday. She underwent testing there to see what might be causing her health problems. Late Saturday afternoon she had her gall bladder removed in an emergency surgery. Reports were given Sunday morning that she seemed to be better. We continue to pray for her and her family during these times.

Timothy Cleghorn, Hannah's brother, flew in from Texas to be with her. He was able to preach for us Sunday afternoon as his Dad went to stay with Hannah.

The children enjoyed their activity Friday night. They decorated Bible verse signs to pass out at the nursing home this month.

We wish a happy birthday to Beth Tomey. She is one of our college students. Beth uses her talents of singing and playing the viola for the Lord. She also provides beautifully decorated cakes for all of the special activities at church.

There will be an Ordination Service March 15 as two of our young men will be ordained as preachers.

The King James Bible Conference is in April. More details and times will be given in this article as the time grows near.
